a rescue from our Aunt Georgette.
now there are only a few light indentations.
The little white scars used to cover at least a third of the shell!
We still don't know if it's a boy or girl.
Supposedly females have a flat plastron,
or bottom part,
males are concave.
Looks like a girl to me.
hiding out in this long wooden box in the yard.
We were surprised it's lived through two winters.
Snails come out by the dozen,
and the tortoise or box turtle gorges.
Still cool to have.
