the day obecians ruled the earth

Yesterday was one of those almost rainy days,
the type that makes us southern californians drive like crazy,
and use as an excuse to not do any work.
Most of us anyway,
I did put some time into this electrical project,
and stayed off the road.
Perich Brothers at the OB Xmas Parade - 2013

After the drizzle the boys and I finished up errands,
and made it to the tail end of the OB XMAS Parade.
Obecians were lucky the clouds had parted just in time.
The parade was a bit of a surprise for the kids,
they thought we were going to get some Mexican food.
We parked a bit high on the hill,
and joined the swath of looky-loos funneling down to Newport.

We hung out at the staging area,
but got caught up in this funky marching drum circle,
complete with dancing girls and a hippy truck.
We followed the beat down to the beach.
perich  brothers - what the...

The kids were probably a bit overwhelmed,
as OB does not host your normal christmas parade.
What other city has stripper poles on a dragon float?
That's what makes it fun.
Not many spectators are sitting in their lawn chairs,
young and old,
many are wearing some kind of xmas cheer,
and most are enjoying a red-nosed buzz.
Sure they might be overwhelmed now,
but let's see what happens in a year or too...
Holey Chit...

I told you we were following this drum beat!
There were enough change-ups so it never got old.
Heck I'm glad to have these videos for later!

It was a good time although sadly without our girls.
Very concentrated and very brief.
In the old days this would have marked the time to start partying.
Now its the time to go home, warm up and flip on a movie!

Hay wey!

natural progression

The last swap we scored one of those crossbow pistols.
We couldn't resist!
Jakob & crossbow pistol

This thing has enough kick to easily lose the first arrow
as it passed through the target into the bushes.
Way different than the airsoft and bb-guns,
but a natural progression for inner city shooting.
jakob, macey and our zombie

Good thing we had the perfect target and a willing arteest.
Jaxon and the crossbow

The excitement was enough to get jaxon out.

Good Times!

KIDS - 1 CANS - 0

I'll tell ya what,
you don't want to be an aluminum can in our backyard.
zombie can target

I'm trying to imagine how many shots its taken to do this!
jakob perich - sharpshooter

Jakob's got the sharpshooting bug.
He'll plow through his homework and go pluck away.

Shortly after this shot...

#19 for oldies month...
Marty Robbins - El Paso - 1964
funny how the hosts are wearing the cowboy getups,
but not the band.
Cool aussie TV version.

It's better to have some cans hanging up around the yard.
Much safer for the birds and cats.
Serious!
targets

We scrounged around for some new targets,
and realized we had a serious lack of aluminum cans.
Gotta start drinking more corn syrup or beer!

lava shoes

Over winter break the kids had way too much free time.
I'd send them on bike rides,
chore duties, whatever it took.
macey's contraption

While the boys were out,
Macey and I set up a circus trick.
It started with a short run over the grass.
I thought that would get me some garage time.
Nope she mastered that way too quick.
Macey on the tight rope

Fortunately I had stashed a long wavy 2x4,
and we made a good 16 foot run.

It's hard to see,
but this thing is super twisty.
There's also a wobbly spot in the middle as it doesn't touch the ground.
perich brothers and sister circus

When the boys got home,
we had to grow it out a bit.
It was good to see them having fun.
You don't want to step in the lava unless you have lava shoes.

They took turns on this thing til it got dark.
I actually had to send them in.
Who woulda thought some old scrap wood
could get this much mileage.
family shot

I had to keep changing it up to make it more difficult.
Now the right side goes up hill a bit.

So now it's been up for a couple days.
Jakob stepped it up a bit,
and got the backwards thing almost down!
We'll have our own little circus.
Knife throwers, tight board walkers, gunslingers...
jakob on the balance beam

Simple things huh!
Anyone want to buy an xbox?
